Let’s electrify everywhere!

Our focus is local, but our vision is for every postcode in Australia to go electric. We’re demonstrating what’s possible in our own community so that others can follow our lead and governments are compelled to support every household to electrify.

Why 2515?

In 2022, a group of 2515 locals started an independent, grassroots campaign to reduce fossil fuel emissions through household electrification. An overwhelming 30% of 2515 residents (1500 households out of 4500) responded to the group’s initial survey, indicating strong support for a community electrification project.

Australia’s Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) agreed to fund the Electrify 2515 Community Pilot because real-world data from a willing and engaged community in a concentrated area will provide critical information to inform Australia’s transition to a smart, electric future.

The aim of the Pilot is to accelerate electrification across the nation by gathering learnings about consumer motivations, electric appliance installation at scale, long-term behaviour change, and impacts on the grid.

Ultimately, we’re calling on governments to support every household to go electric. By doing so, Australians could collectively save $680 billion on home energy costs by 2050 ($1.7 trillion if we also electrify our cars). This would be a win for households, a win for our energy future, and a win for climate action.

Find groups like us in your community

Rewiring Australia is supporting community groups across Australia to run local electrification campaigns. They offer resources for new and existing groups (eg. website templates, fact sheets, graphics, and strategy documents) and facilitate workshops and cross-community collaboration opportunities.

Contact Rewiring Australia to join their Electric Communities network and access their support. Alternatively, you can also search the map above for existing groups and contact those groups directly.

Are you ready to Electrify Illawarra?

With support from our Electrify 2515 team, folks from across the wider region are coming together to build a new Electrify Illawarra movement—and they’re looking for volunteers!

 Electrify your own home today

2515 or not, everyone can benefit from electrifying their home.

The average Australian household using gas for their cooking, hot water, and heating could save up to $800 a year by switching to efficient electric appliances. When you add rooftop solar and a battery, potential savings jump to $3000 a year.
